Vote on important bylaw resolutions
at the next Local 802 Membership Meeting
October 22 @ 5pm on Zoom
We will be voting on a critical matter that greatly impacts the Met Orchestra, Associate Musicians, and Music Staff (as well as other 802 members). It is crucial that we have a strong turnout of Associate Musicians at the October 22 Local 802 Membership Meeting. Steven White’s resolution would allow for us to receive substantially more money from the Member Legal Services Fund than we are currently allowed, and by eliminating the restrictive 3 year period, it would enable us to receive legal support for next year’s negotiation.
The following message is from the Regular Orchestra Committee:
Met Orchestra Musician Steven White has a bylaw amendment up for vote by the full 802 membership, which would not only allow the Met Orchestra to receive a fair amount of Member Legal Services funding, but would also allow us to receive it for our upcoming contract negotiation. There is a competing bylaw amendment that the Executive Board is recommending over Steven’s, which would only allow us to receive MLS funds once every 3 years, meaning we would receive no financial support for our next negotiation, and will be responsible for 100% of our legal costs.
Furthermore, this meeting is currently scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 22, at 5:00pm, which is during a rehearsal of Carmen at the Met. The Committee is doing everything we can to get the meeting rescheduled to after rehearsal is over. However, if we are unsuccessful, we need as many people as are available to join promptly at the start of the meeting so that we can move to delay all voting (and override any objections) until all of our members can join and their voices can be heard.
